A fan/follower recently submitted the following awesome question: “How can I resize a Crissy pattern to fit my Velvet… dolls?”
What a fantastic question to ask! Thank you!
The two dolls, Crissy and Velvet, are not identical in size, but are very similar in most areas of their bodies. In fact, a lot of the doll clothes patterns that I’ve designed for Crissy will also fit Velvet, and vice versa.
In the image at the top of this page, you’ll see the two dolls are wearing my felt top and schoolgirl skirt patterns–and these outfits were made using the exact same patterns–but on Crissy, the skirt is more of a mini-skirt whereas the skirt goes down to Velvet’s knees.
So the two dolls can swap clothes to some extent, but one would have to make some adjustments if they were making long pants or long-sleeved shirts for the two dolls. Also, please be aware that both dolls have a button at the back that can make ordinary patterns a little challenging to work with. (Take a look at the image below.)

Of course it always helps to have exact measurements. Here are Crissy’s measurements for sewing purposes:
- Neck circumference… 11.5 cm
- Neck to shoulder seam… 3 cm
- Bust 22.5 cm
- Collar to true waist… 9 cm
- Underarm to true waist… 5.6 cm
- Sleeve inseam (underarm to cuff)… 13.7 cm
- Sleeve from shoulder seam to cuff… 14.2 cm
- Sleeve circumference (upper arm bicep)… 7.5 cm
- Waist (including button)… 23.5 cm
- Hip circumference… 23.5 cm
- Pants inseam (crotch to just below the ankle bone)… 18.5 cm
- Pants outseam (waist to just below the ankle bone)… 25.4 cm
- Pants leg circumference (upper thigh)… 13.5 cm
- Height not including hair… 17.75 inches or 45 cm
Here are the measurements for my vintage Velvet doll (the blond doll in the image above) for sewing purposes. Seam allowances are not included…
- Neck circumference… 11.7 cm
- Neck to shoulder seam… 3 cm
- Bust 20 cm
- Collar to true waist… 6.5 cm
- Underarm to true waist… 4 cm
- Sleeve inseam (underarm to cuff)… 11 cm
- Sleeve from shoulder seam to cuff… 11.5 cm
- Sleeve circumference (upper arm bicep)… 8.2 cm
- Waist (including button)… 20.5 cm
- Hip circumference… 23.5 cm
- Pants inseam (crotch to just below the ankle bone)… 14.5 cm
- Pants outseam (waist to just below the ankle bone)… 19.5 cm
- Pants leg circumference (upper thigh)… 13 cm
- Height not including hair… 16 inches or 40 cm
Now with a few exceptions, Velvet can often fit in Wellie Wisher and/or Hearts 4 Hearts Girls patterns. If you are purchasing patterns for one of these dolls, just be aware that Velvet is a little bit taller than Wellie Wishers and H4H dolls, and she’s a wee bit wider in the upper arm and thigh as well as her neck.
Please note that the adorable rubber boots worn by Velvet in the image at the top of this page were Wellie Wisher boots, so both Crissy and Velvet (having the exact same foot size) can wear Wellie Wisher rubber boots!

Thank you, much needed information on the crissy doll and her family💖
Thank you for the kind comment. I have sort of stopped posting my #TapeMeasureTuesday blog posts due to limited views.
But as a sewist myself, I always appreciate when someone else has done the tedious work of posting helpful sewing measurements online. So I was a little surprised that #TapeMeasureTuesday didn’t get more attention.
Still, I’m here to share my sewing and doll clothing design experiences and expertise with the world at large. If people start revisiting these older #TapeMeasureTuesday posts, I may return to providing this information for various dolls in a once-a-week blog post again.
