In the past few weeks, I’ve uploaded three different videos to my YouTube channel, each one showing how to sew a different article of business attire for 12 inch male dolls and action figures.
Today’s blog post will give you patterns and tutorial videos for making the shirt, the trousers, and the tie. In a later video, I’ll give you the pattern and tutorial for making a matching business suit’s formal jacket.

These doll/action figure clothes will likely fit most 12 inch dolls and action figures, but I’ve specifically tried them on Superstar Ken, GI Joe, Action Man, and even Broad Ken.
Broad Ken (shown above in navy trousers) has a longer inseam than the others, so I’m providing a link to his trousers pattern and the coordinating tutorial in the third set of bullets below.
The inseam, by the way, is the line going from the inner ankle to the crotch. To see what Superstar Ken’s inseam measurement is, or to see what GI Joe’s inseam measurement is, so you can do a comparison to a doll or action figure you’re wanting to make these for, please click on the links I’ve provided.
To make your doll or action figure this business suit ensemble, you will likely need one or more of the following items:
- cotton fabric
- Gondola Snaps (for the shirt)
- 1/8 inch wide elastic
- chopsticks (for inverting doll clothes)
- Dritz fabric pencil
- Wrights 1/4 in. Bias Tape (for the dinner jacket)
- Craft felt (also for the business jacket)
- Fiskars Stitchers mini snips (for clipping seams efficiently)
- Tulip Mini Iron (see this link before you buy please)
- Gutermann sewing machine thread

*Note: Broad Ken requires a different pair of trousers than the ones that appear on today’s free pattern. Click here for a trousers/pants pattern that fits Broad Ken. However, Broad Ken can wear the shirt and tie.
