Sew a #Western Outfit for 8″ #Dolls w/FREE #Sewing Pattern @ ChellyWood.com

Image shows an eight-piece pattern set, designed by Chelly Wood, to be used for sewing a Western shirt and a pair of elastic-waist jeans for an eight inch doll, like the Breyer riders, the eight-inch World of Love Dolls from Hasbro, and Mattel's Stacie dolls. On the pattern, it says that there are instructional videos showing how to make the clothes on a YouTube channel called ChellyWood1, but you can also see these videos at ChellyWood.com.

Today I’m posting a re-designed pattern for 8″ dolls, like the World of Love™ dolls from Hasbro, the Breyer Rider® dolls from the Breyer toy company, and even the eight-inch Wizard of Oz action figures from MEGO Toys.

When my daughter was younger, she was really passionate about her Breyer® horses and dolls, so I designed this pattern for her. She made a bunch of shirts and pants for her dolls using this pattern. Here are some of the pictures either she or I took of the dolls wearing the various outfits she made, using this pattern:

Image of Breyer model horse rider doll "Laura" and World of Love doll from Hasbro both wearing the same western-style shirt and blue jeans. Each doll stands in a diorama; the Breyer doll is in a kitchen with stove and frying pan; the World of Love doll stands on a sandy ground with a mountain in the background. Overlay says, "Visit ChellyWood.com for free printable sewing patterns for dolls of many shapes and sizes."

So you can see that a variety of different 8-inch dolls can wear these patterns.

I often have people ask me, “How can I tell if a pattern will fit my doll?” One of the tricks I use is to cut out the paper pattern, and then tape it together to see if it would fit the doll. Granted, this doesn’t offer a seam allowance, but it gives you a rough estimate of how well the pattern will fit the doll.

Tomorrow I’ll post tutorials for making the outfits shown here.

Need help printing my patterns? This link offers a tutorial showing you how to download and print my FREE patterns using Google Docs. (For the older print-a-pattern tutorial, which uses Microsoft Word, click here.) To review my difficulty scale (demonstrating how hard or easy a pattern is by the number of flowers displayed), take a look back at this blog post.

Please note: you must enlarge my patterns to fit a full-sized piece of American computer paper (8.5 x 11 inches or 216 x 279 mm) without margins, before printing. These designs use a scant 1/4 inch seam (4 mm to be exact).

If you’re wondering why I make patterns and videos without charging a fee, please visit the “Chelly’s Books” page, and that should explain my general motivations. My patterns are now available through “Creative Commons Attribution.” This means that I created my patterns (and therefore I own rights to them), but I’m willing to share them with everyone who will tell people about my website.

Here are some helpful ways to tell the world about my patterns:

Are you new to sewing? I’ve got a playlist of tutorials for the beginning sewists on my YouTube channel. It includes video tutorials showing you how to do a basic straight stitch when sewing by hand, how to use the whipstitch to hem a garment, how to sew on snaps, and even how to design your own doll clothes patterns, for those who are new to design and alterations.

In case you haven’t heard, I have actually designed some commercial patterns for Lammily LLC. They have some new dolls in their line, including a new male doll, so you might want to visit the Lammily website to see what they’ve got going on.

If your question wasn’t answered here, feel free to submit a question. I’m always happy to help my followers find what they need, so they, too, can make amazing doll clothes and crafts!
