Fan mail… “Love your free sewing patterns! Is there anything I can do in return?” #FanMail #FreePatterns

The image shows the Chelly Wood doll holding an envelope. Beside her is a sewing machine and behind her is a dess form modeling a handmade doll dress. The watermark says, "Chelly Wood dot com : free patterns and tutorials."

Every now and then I get an email, a public comment on this website, or even a letter in my post office box that says, “Thank you so much for providing all these free doll clothes patterns! Is there anything I can do in return?”

Having recently received similar fan mail, I thought I’d do a quick blog post answering that commonly-asked question: “Is there anything I can do in return?”

This may seem like a strange follow-up statement, but please take a look at the overalls pattern below:

This is the JPG image version of a free printable PDF sewing pattern for making a pair of doll overalls to fit 8 inch Vogue Ginny dolls. The pattern is marked with three purple flowers to indicate the difficulty level of this sewing project, and it has the Creative Commons Attribution symbol on it, along with the ChellyWood.com logo. Feel free to share this image on social media, but please attribute it to Chelly Wood, to honor the Creative Commons Attribution license.

Do you see that grey box that appears inside various pattern pieces? It has a little person symbol that sort of looks like the symbols on a “Men’s Room” bathroom door. This grey box is called the “Creative Commons Attribution” symbol.

All of my personally-designed patterns on this website use the Creative Commons Attribution mark, which means that you’re supposed to tell people where your patterns come from. You can do so by sharing them on Facebook, pinning them on Pinterest, using the hashtag #ChellyWoodPatterns on Instagram, and/or tweeting about them. This will help spread the word that my FREE printable sewing patterns and tutorials for doll clothes do exist.

Okay, now I need to make a disclaimer statement, and in a moment, you’ll understand why. As an Amazon affiliate, I earn from qualifying purchases. And if you’re wondering where you can send fan mail of your own, here’s my official business address:

The image shows Mattel's Best Fashion Friend Barbie doll (28-inch Barbies) holding up a sign that tells how a person could write to the doll clothes designer Chelly Wood. The overlay says, "Chelly Wood Fan Mail" and offers the URL ChellyWood.com.

You can help build up my website’s following by clicking on any links from ChellyWood.com that interest you. This helps Google understand that people are finding helpful links on my website.

Some of my links (to things like Dritz snaps, tiny buttons on Etsyused patterns on eBay, and dolls you can purchase on Amazon) are affiliate links. You can learn more about how affiliate marketing works on my website’s Privacy Policy Page.

Here’s another thing you can do to help. Lately I’ve been creating YouTube videos that have instrumental music with crafting images, like the images you see below.

The blue square background shows circular images from various vintage doll clothes sewing patterns surrounded by music notes, a sewing needle, and the words, "inspirational music for sewing doll clothes."

You may not realize this, but whenever you add my YouTube channel’s videos to your playlists, you help the YouTube algorithm understand that my channel is worth watching. That helps my YouTube channel raise its ranking among all the other crafting and doll-related channels out there.

My website also has a “shop” page. From the home page, it uses the button you see below, with the word “Shop” right in the middle of the blue-outlined bodice pattern that I use for my logo.

A lot of the links in my “shop” page are also affiliate marketing links, but sometimes you can buy physical products from me, like pin cushions, handmade doll clothes, and fabric remnants.

On a purple cotton fabric background with tiny white polka dots, there's an outline of a turquoise blue bodice pattern. Inside the bodice pattern, in all capital letters, it says, "shop." If you click on this link, it will take you to a page called a "buyer's guide," and on that page, Chelly Wood (a doll clothing designer, YouTuber and writer) gives you links to some of her favorite online locations for buying miniature buttons, teeny-tiny belt buckles, small-print fabrics, and various sewing supplies that are helpful when making miniatures and especially when sewing doll clothes.
