A couple of weeks ago, we looked at whether or not the McCall’s 2970 miniature fashion doll wardrobe pattern would fit Strawberry Shortcake, Lottie, and the Stacie dolls from the 1990’s. If you’d like to go back to read that article, click the link right here.

In case you didn’t know, the McCall’s 2970 doll clothes patterns were designed to fit vintage Dawn dolls, which are tiny six inch fashion dolls. And in this series of blog posts, I’ll be trying on doll clothes from this pattern, to see which small and tiny dolls can fit in these doll clothes.

I’ve made the View D pants suit, the View B long dress, and the View C shorter dress. The View C short dress appears in the image above with a blue ribbon belt around the waist.

On the pattern envelope, the shorter dress looks like it could be a skirt and top. I was really confused when I opened the pattern envelope and discovered that it is not. It’s just a short dress.

Of course, if you’re good at alterations, you could easily make it into a skirt and top. But let’s get down to business! Who can wear this little View C dress?

Figure A above shows how the View C dress from McCall’s 2970 fits the Topper Dawn doll, a doll for which this pattern was actually designed.

And while my hopes were high for the little Calico Critters rabbit doll, as you can see in figures B and C, the sleeves of the bodice for the View C dress are just too long for him. The bodice is on the Calico Critter backwards because the neck is way too tight for him, so I tried to make it fit him more like a shirt with a collar that opens in front at the neck.

Alas, this didn’t help. If I were to design a little shirt for him — which I think is certainly possible, he would need the shirt to have shorter sleeves, a little longer torso (to allow for a hem), and we’d definitely need to make it a collared shirt, which is tricky for beginners. So keep that in mind.

You may also be wondering about his little mismatched pants. I did an earlier blog post about these. Those are the underpants pattern that also comes in the McCall’s 2970 pattern for Dawn and other 6 inch fashion dolls.

As you can see, Dawn’s underpants fit this little fellow just fine. Even his little cotton tail fits inside the underpants.

So if I were designing a pair of trousers or shorts for this Calico Critter, I think this underpants pattern would be a good jumping off point.

Here on ChellyWood.com, sewing patterns for the Calico Critters have often been requested by people who build dollhouses and specialize in miniatures. So I think, while the View C dress bodice doesn’t quite fit this little guy, the McCall’s 2970 pattern could be used to make alterations for these wee little creatures.

It looks like the View C dress fits my Enchantimals Taylee Turtle doll perfectly, right? But look closely at the length of the skirt…

If you compare the same dress on my Topper Dawn doll in Figure A above, you’ll see that the skirt is a little bit longer on my Taylee Turtle doll. The waist is also a little more loose on the Enchantimals doll.

Still, I consider this a pretty close fit, and if anyone asked me for a recommendation for a commercial pattern to make a simple dress for an Enchantimals doll, I wouldn’t hesitate to suggest trying the McCall’s 2970 doll clothes pattern from the 1970’s for this doll.
