Free one-piece swimsuit PDF sewing pattern for 14 inch dolls! #August #SummerFun

Consuelo, a Hearts for Hearts Girls doll from Mexico, models a one-piece swimsuit made from a very stretchy swimsuit material that has a background color of blue with red swirls and tiny white dots. Her long dark chocolate hair swings behind her, and her brown eyes sparkle. The swimsuit is held up with a halter style pair of straps that snap behind the doll's neck. The textbox at the bottom of the image reminds us that there are free sewing patterns available to make this one-piece swimsuit for 14 inch dolls like Consuelo at ChellyWood.com!

I designed the swimsuit you see above as a prototype for the 13 inch Judy Littlechap doll, so I was surprised to discover that it actually fits the Hearts for Hearts Girls 14 inch dolls.

However, please be advised that you must use a really stretchy fabric to make this pattern fit your 14 inch dolls, and it doesn’t fit Wellie Wishers — I tried it on my Wellie Wishers, so I’m sure of that.

The swimsuit is designed so that two strips of fabric reach from the front of the swimsuit to the back of the doll's neck with a snap at the back of the neck.

As you can see in the image above, there’s a bit of stretch to this swimsuit around the crotch and thigh areas of the doll, so even though I was able to use this pattern to make a cotton bodysuit for my 13 inch Judy Littlechap doll, I tried the cotton version of this swimsuit on Consuelo and found that the cotton version does not fit her.

So definitely choose a fabric with a lot of stretch for this project.

When I first posted this swimsuit on Judy Littlechap, I got some complaints that the swimsuit fabric was ugly. Well, it’s a recycled fabric, so yes, it’s a little out of style. But if you click on the links I’m leaving in today’s blog post, you should be able to find some stretchy fabric that’s more appealing.

Three images of the Consuelo doll from the Hearts for Hearts Girls doll collection show off her handmade swimsuit from various angles. The back view gives a close-up that shows how the back of the swimsuit is closed with snaps in a vertical line down the doll's lower back, while the straps are closed at the back of the neck with another snap. The side view shows how the swimsuit's darts work well with the doll's bust shape. The front view shows the doll with one arm outstretched, to show that the swimsuit's underarm area keeps its shape whether her arm is up or down. I especially like the small-print Spandex options on Etsy. They have some pretty florals, animal print Spandex, and of course solids too.

In this image, we see three swatches of fabric from the FabScrap unboxing video: upper left is a piece of deep purple satin with large spots of darker embossed satin. Below that is a swirl of purple swimsuit fabric with a barely-visible wave pattern in tiny print upon the fabric. Then to the right of both of these fabrics is white cotton jersey with a lavender stripe running through it, and dancing all across these stripes are pastel colored donuts covered in frosting. Yum!
