Another Sindy shoe swaperoo! #DollCollector #VintageToys

A vintage Pedigree Sindy doll with chestnut brown hair models a handmade denim-look wrap skirt with front pockets and what appears to be button-on suspenders. Under the suspenders, she wears a red check shirt with T-shirt length sleeves. Her hand is in one of the pockets of her skirt, and to do this, she has swiveled her hips slightly to her left side. Her face is turned to the viewer's left (the doll's right), demonstrating that her head swivels, as does her hip and waist area.

If you are a Sind doll collector, and you saw Monday’s blog post about making the little wrap skirt and checkered shirt outfit shown in the image above, then you were probably wondering, “Hang on… Where did Chelly Wood get those shoes?”

With that said, let’s talk about shoes!

With feet crossed at the ankles, Pedigree Sindy's black Mary Jane shoes appear to be made of soft plastic.

The black Mary Jane style shoes that my Pedigree Sindy doll wore in Monday’s blog post are, as you might have guessed, not her original shoes. They did fit her feet nicely, though, and I loved how pretty they looked under her wrap skirt. They dressed up the outfit in a truly 1960’s or even 1970’s style, in my humble opinion.

When I was in the fourth grade, back in 1976, I had a pair of brown leather Mary Jane style shoes, a lot like these, and I loved them because you could wear them under pants, skirts, or dresses.

Under a red check gingham skirt, a Pedigree Sindy doll wears a pair of black Mary Jane style shoes.

If you look at Sindy‘s right foot in the image above, you can see that there’s a deliberate slit at the back of the shoe, which makes it easy to slip these on Sindy‘s feet. But that should also be a red flag, letting you know the approximate age of the shoe.

What era do you think they are from? Can you guess which doll they originally belonged to? Before you scroll down, really try to guess…

A vintage Ideal Tammy doll is seated on a black kitchen chair. With the doll seated, her legs are spread out in a V-shape. She models the entire outfit including a denim wrap skirt with pockets and suspenders, the hair tie handkerchief bandana, and the red check shirt, from the vintage Simplicity Pattern 4883, view 3 ensemble. The doll wears black Mary Jane style shoes with a heavy tread. The Chelly Wood dot com logo appears in the upper right corner of this image.

In Monday’s blog post, I showed my Ideal Tammy wearing the same shoes, but from this angle, they look more like men’s work boots and less like a pair of dainty Mary Janes!

However the heavy tread on the bottom of the shoes should also help you place them in the right era. Are you adjusting your best guess?

Under a blue denim wrap skirt, a vintage Pedigree Sindy doll models her black Mary Jane style shoes, which appear to have a very slight heel.

Let’s have one more look at the side of these shoes before I disclose the original owner of them. You’ll notice there’s a slight heel to the shoes. It’s very slight, but it’s there.

This adds a bit of lift to Sindy’s height.

Are you ready to find out which doll came in those shoes?

Wait for it…

  1. Well that’s interesting. I have Ginny and Hermione but never thought of trying their shoes on anyone else. I was guessing the early mid 2000s as I remember dolls having split back shoes then.
I don’t want to deprive Ginny of her shoes but I might have to look out for some loose ones. online.
