I frequently get requests for doll clothes patterns to fit baby dolls in the 14-inch, 15-inch, and 16-inch size range, and when I get these requests, I do add them to my constantly-growing list of doll clothes pattern requests.

However I need to be honest with you; I don’t plan to design baby doll clothes for dolls in this size range any time soon.

Why? Because I frequently visit second hand stores and search through their patterns for sale, and do you know what I find a lot of? Yep! Doll clothes patterns for Cabbage Patch dolls.

The Cabbage Patch doll was a big fad in the 1980’s which started to peter out toward the late 1990’s, but everybody’s grandmother still has these patterns in great abundance.

Don’t get me wrong… The Cabbage Patch dolls brought a lot of joy to a lot kids — boys and girls alike! But I don’t want to re-invent the wheel. And let’s face it, a lot of these patterns will fit the larger baby dolls on the market today.

Just have a look at the specs on the back of this overalls / shirt-with-collar / denim overall dress pattern:

This pattern is for a 16″ (40.5 cm) soft-bodied baby-like Cabbage Patch doll, but Cabbage Patch dolls came in lots of sizes. After Mattel bought out the company for Cabbage Patch doll production, they began producing a Cabbage Patch doll that was only 14″ tall. There are also some Cabbage Patch dolls in larger sizes as well.

When Toys R Us took over the company in the early 2000’s, they produced the 20″ Cabbage Patch Kids dolls and the 18″ Cabbage Patch baby dolls. Patterns in these sizes can be a bit harder to find in second-hand stores, although they do pop up from time to time on eBay.

So there are plenty of patterns out there for your 14-16 inch dolls and even larger, you just need to know where to look for them.

If you search in the craft section of your local second hand store, you should be able to find some Cabbage Patch doll clothes patterns. People get rid of them these days when they’re cleaning out their sewing closets because the Cabbage Patch fad lost a lot of its steam about 20 years ago.

Not that there aren’t still collectors; there definitely are! So if you’re wanting to sell your Cabbage Patch doll clothes patterns, I would recommend trying eBay, where you can reach out to a broader group of doll collectors.
