Preview of 4″ or 4.5-inch doll dress project for this week @ ChellyWood.com #sewingproject

The image shows a Greenbrier 12 cm doll which looks a lot like a Strawberry shortcake doll (which came in 10 cm, 11 cm, and 12 cm sizes). She wears a felt-and-cotton handmade dress with ribbons for straps. The dress is decorated with rickrack. Here’s a preview of this week’s easy-to-sew doll dress project, which fits dolls in the 4-inch to 4 and a half-inch size range.

The doll modeling this week’s dress project is a Greenbrier doll. She looks a lot like a Strawberry Shortcake doll, though, and I’d venture to guess that 4 to 5 inch Strawberry Shortcake dolls could easily wear this dress project, although it may fit the 5″ dolls at the ankle rather than being a floor-length long dress on them.

I don’t own any of the vintage 4-inch to 4.5-inch Strawberry Shortcake dolls, but I’ve been watching for them at yard sales and second hand stores. If I run across one, I’ll be sure to buy it! Because I’d love to design clothes specifically for them.

We’re going to use ribbons for this dress’s straps and felt for the bodice, so later this week, I plan to re-post my ribbon tutorial:

This is a close-up image of a Greenbrier doll wearing a handmade felt and cotton dress with ribbons for dress straps. In this close-up, you can see how the doll resembles Strawberry Shortcake dolls in her pudgy cheeks and freckles. The dress is obviously made of felt now that the camera has zoomed in on the felt bodice. The skirt is made of a pretty blue cotton with swirling patterns on it. The ribbon is white and 1/8 inch thick. The watermark reminds you to visit Chelly Wood dot com for the free printable sewing patterns for making this pretty ball gown.

We saw the shorter version of this dress during the first week of February, and you can click here to see that tutorial video.

Long dresses with a felt bodice are super easy to make for any doll. Maybe next week or later this week I’ll re-post the tutorial that shows you how to design your own felt bodice for dolls when making long gowns like this.

The dress also uses rick-rack, and of course, I have a tutorial for that as well. So please come back to ChellyWood.com later this week and next, to look at all the great things I have in store!
