Time for New Year’s Resolutions… What doll clothes patterns should I design in 2026? #NewYear2026 #SewingGoals

Yes, it’s time for me to set my New Year’s resolutions. I’d love your help. Please scroll down to the bottom of today’s blog post and let me know what doll clothes you’d like me to design (and for which dolls) in 2026.

I’m looking for ideas! Please submit a comment.

Now, did I achieve last year’s goals? Mostly, no. (I think I set the bar WAY too high.) Here’s how things unfolded:

A stitched bookmark shaped pennant from Chelly Wood's "Sewing Goals Planner Page" states the following goal for Chelly in 2025: Finish Romeo and Juliet Act Five! Work on this project for 30 minutes per week.

Nope. I didn’t finish that goal. See yesterday’s blog post for details.

A stitched bookmark shaped pennant from Chelly Wood's "Sewing Goals Planner Page" states the following goal for Chelly in 2025: Edit, revise, and publish my memoir, with a "sewing doll clothes" sub-theme.

Nope. I’m still working on my memoir. Wish me luck!

A stitched bookmark shaped pennant from Chelly Wood's "Sewing Goals Planner Page" states the following goal for Chelly in 2025: Maintain a sewing and design budget that's focused on earning, rather than spending.

Yes. I did achieve this. 🙂

A stitched bookmark shaped pennant from Chelly Wood's "Sewing Goals Planner Page" states the following goal for Chelly in 2025: Design and SELL a wardrobe for Hearts for Hearts Nahji (sell the whole wardrobe); however there are crossed out words under where someone has written in "Hearts for Hearts Nahji" and it looks like it used to say Judy Littlechap dolls.

I shouldn’t have crossed this out! I worked on a Judy Littlechap wardrobe. It’s not done, but I did work on it.

So yeah, I kind of achieved it.

A stitched bookmark shaped pennant from Chelly Wood's "Sewing Goals Planner Page" states the following goal for Chelly in 2025: Design and SELL a wardrobe for the BALD baby doll (sell the whole wardrobe); however some words have been scratched out in black ink, and the words "the BALD baby doll" have been added over the top. If you look closely, the scratched out words appear to be "Baby Alive dolls" under the scratch marks.

Actually, I did make a few patterns for Baby Alive this year. Only one has been posted on ChellyWood.com so far, but I feel this goal was successful in part.

A stitched bookmark shaped pennant from Chelly Wood's "Sewing Goals Planner Page" states the following goal for Chelly in 2025: Design and SELL a wardrobe for Jem dolls (sell the wardrobe PLUS the doll).

Nope.

A stitched bookmark shaped pennant from Chelly Wood's "Sewing Goals Planner Page" states the following goal for Chelly in 2025: Design and SELL a wardrobe for used Barbie dolls (sell the wardrobe PLUS the dolls).

Actually, yes. I didn’t sell these dolls, but I did give them away with the wardrobes I created. So again, I do feel like this goal was achieved.

A stitched bookmark shaped pennant from Chelly Wood's "Sewing Goals Planner Page" states the following goal for Chelly in 2025: Create a doll case from a shoebox, using Simplicity 4883 (for Tammy).

I’m still working on this. I know I have a real knack for doll clothes design, but I’m learning that my shoebox craft skills are not that great… 🙃

A stitched bookmark shaped pennant from Chelly Wood's "Sewing Goals Planner Page" states the following goal for Chelly in 2025: Only add new dolls to my collection when I also SELL a doll from my collection.

I did okay on this one.

YES! I did this one. YAY! (It feels really good too!)

How about you guys? What were some of your New Year’s resolutions in 2025, and did you achieve them?

And also, please leave your doll clothes pattern requests for my 2026 Goal Setting sheet in the “Comments” section below. I’ll wait to set my goals until I hear from you.

Judy, I saw that you have already submitted a request for clothes that fit Little Mismatched, but let me know, in the comments (if you haven’t already on yesterday’s post), what kind of clothes should I make for her? Is there anything, in particular, you’re hoping I will design?

Thanks in advance everyone!

  1. Hi Chelly,
I guess you need a doll to make patterns but I just checked and you show no dolls between 18 inches and 28 inches. It is on my mind because I just purchased a 22 inch fashion doll but already had several dolls between American Girl (18″) and BFF Barbie (28″). A couple of years ago I got the 24″ Rainbow High and even further back (since 2018) purchased the 20″ Maru and Friends (a taller version of 18″ AG) but with a hard body. I bought the M&F wardrobe and patterns from Etsy and even enlarged the free RH patterns that are out there plus a couple of people made a few patterns besides selling outfits for RH doll. If you happen to have an in-between doll that you can design patterns for please put that on your NY resolutions list. Thank you.

    1. I have recently purchased a 19 inch Miss Revlon doll, and she’s definitely going to make it onto my New Year’s Resolution list for 2026. I’d like to make more patterns for 28 inch Barbie too. Perhaps between the two, you can find some patterns that you can alter a bit for the dolls you are sewing for.

Let me know if there’s a specific outfit you’d like me to make. For Miss Revlon, I was thinking I’d make doll clothes that are period-correct for her, like 1950’s and 1960’s styles.

  2. I would like some more fashions for the vintage 9 inch Skipper. Specifically, I liked the Christmas dress you made for Francie. Maybe something with long puffy sleeves and an empire waist?

  3. I am terrible at keeping goals. I say to you just be yourself and keep doing what you love and whatever you choose will be right.
