Doll of the Day: Can you help me identify this handsome gentleman? #ActionFigures #Dolls

This image shows a muscular action figure wearing handmade boxer shorts and a painted-on T-shirt. He sits at an office desk, holding his morning cup of coffee. His colorful polka-dot shorts are handmade using the free printable sewing pattern for boxers or undershorts (or summer shorts or swim trunks) provided by Chelly Wood, and this (and other doll/action figure clothes patterns) come with free tutorial videos showing how to sew the shorts. The overlay says, "ChellyWood.com" and says that free doll clothes patterns and tutorials are available at that URL.

I found this muscle-bound fellow at a yard sale, and I’m designing some clothes to fit him. But who is he? I have no idea!

The only clue I have is the letter “M” on his sleeve. It’s bright orange-ish-yellow and black, on a black and white circular background. Does anyone remember him?

Feel free to leave your thoughts and memories regarding this handsome gentleman in the comments section. Without a trustworthy ID on this doll (or more likely “action figure”), I won’t be able to make him a gallery page with the doll clothes I design for him.

Please continue to show your support by spreading the word about ChellyWood.com. That’s what the “Creative Commons Attribution” mark on my patterns means: if you use my free patterns and tutorials, you should tell people where you got all this great free stuff!

Maybe you can share the image above with someone who may remember this guy…

Thanks!

    1. It certainly looks like Max Steel could swap clothes with this guy, but I don’t see any Max Steel action figures with this T-shirt and the logo he bears on his arm. But thank you for your thoughts. If you can find an image of a Max Steel that looks more like my action figure, send me the link, okay?

  1. It seems to be a 2001 Action man street patrol doll from Hasbro.
    Google helped me a lot.
There is one on EBay on sale with the box.

    Is it taller than Ken?

    1. He’s 12 and 1/4 inches or 31 cm tall, so just slightly taller than Ken, who typically clocks in at 12 inches/30 cm.

And I think you’re right. He looks a lot like Action Man Street Patrol, as Mary suggested in a previous comment.

  2. He’s from a line of Action Man dolls popular in the UK, I think it said in the 90s. Similar to a GI Joe. That’s what I found on google by doing a search on the logo on his sleeve.

    1. Thank you, Shari. I’m seeing a lot of suggestions for Action Man, so I think the mystery is pretty close to solved. But thank you so much for adding to that confirmation! It helps me build confidence in his identity! 😉

    1. Thank you for the idea. My own phone wouldn’t do that google search, perhaps because the logo is partly scraped off. But other people helped in identifying him as an Action Man Street Patrol action figure. So I think we’ve got it now!

      But thank you!

  3. Hi Chelly,

Your handsome guy is Action Man. More specificly he’s a Hasbro basic series Action Man from 2001 called Street Patrol. The orange and black M logo on the sleeve of his moulded white t-shirt is an orange A over the black M.
Like the original 1966-1984 Palitoy Action Man they have great articulation but Hasbro really beefed up the muscles which means they have large chests, thighs and biceps. Poor Andy (camo atak) here has been sitting around in his shorts since he arrived pouting because he can’t borrow any of Kens clothes 🙁

We’re looking forward to seeing what you design for your new man, I’m going to have a rummage at the weekend and see If I can find the box with my other action figures and do a measurement comparison.

    All the best
    Chelle

    1. Awesome! Thanks for making me smile today, Chelle!

I’m embarking on a series of doll clothes that imitate the clothing worn by various people I met while in Chicago at the IANDS conference (International Association of Near-Death Studies). I chose this Action Man Street Patrol guy to represent Vincent Todd Tolman, who is something of a celebrity in the realm of near-death experiencers, and I did meet him at the IANDS conference. So I’ll be designing Vincent Tolman’s business suit — for my Action Man, if all goes well!

It can be challenging to design clothes for a muscle-bound action figure! And now that I know he’s popular in the UK, I’ll definitely be making the A4 printable patterns for him.

Vincent Todd Tolman is a body builder who died when he overdosed on imported supplements (vitamins). Now that Vinney Tolman has returned from heaven, he advocates for healthy body-building. His story is fascinating. Here’s a link to his memoir, which I read and absolutely LOVED. I highly recommend it!

    2. Now I’m laughing, because I imagined people giving the dolls steroids, in a doll factory!

  4. Hi Chelly! I think that doll is called “action man street patrol.” I did a reverse image search and see there is one on UK eBay. He looks like quite the muscular dude! I’m glad you were able to fix him up with some clothing! I don’t know if your comments section will allow a link, but here is the link to that eBay.

    1. Thank you Michelle. Now that I know he’s popular in the UK, it will be important for me to provide both American and UK (A4) printer paper for the PDF for these patterns. So the details you sent me are super helpful! Thanks!

    1. Actually, Chris, I think he’s very likely an Action Man, which was a UK rendition of something akin to G.I. Joe in the US. Thanks for your input though. You were definitely on the right track!

  5. The image shows a close-up of an Action Man action figure. Action Man is a line of action figures that was launched in the United Kingdom in 1966 by Palitoy, based on Hasbro’s G.I. Joe figure from the United States. This model could be from the late 1990s.

  6. He is a special ops GI Joe. When I get home can find out more. He should have a number on the back of his white top.
