Today’s “Do a Pick” game features the following:
- Blue gingham sundress, Best Buy #8644
- Jeans and blue tank top, Best Buy #3365
- Brown skirt with brown gingham shirt, Best Buy #8647
What’s the story behind this game?
When I was a kid, whenever it was playtime with dolls, we would lay out all our dolls and their clothing items. Then we would “do a pick.”
That’s where you take turns picking which doll or dolls you’ll play with and which outfits or accessories you’ll get to play with. Your playtime companion would take a turn picking her dolls, clothes, and accessories too.
My #DoApick shorts on My YouTube Channel are a blast from the past! They let you choose from retro dolls and their clothing items and/or accessories, while imagining a fun playtime adventure from a bygone era.
Join the fun! Leave your “pick” in the comments!

Dear Chelly,
I have three out of four Francie dolls and those are the reproduction 30th Anniversary, 50th Anniversary and 55th Anniversary Black Francie dolls. I’ve tried to look for my vintage Malibu Francie but I lost her. My mom bought me a similar doll back in 1971 when I was five years old. I guess I’ll buy a replacement. Francie is my favorite doll in the Barbie family.
As for your Do a Pick game for today, I choose all three outfits.
Thanks again for your wonderful blogs,
Trisha
Ha ha ha! “I choose all three outfits.” 🤭 You’re such a rule-breaker!
I have good news for you, Trishadee… I have a new Francie outfit in mind, and I’ve been working on designing a fabric for my Spoonflower store to sort of match the fabric that Mattel used. It can’t be identical because of copyrights, but if I make it sort of like that, then I can use it to create a similar outfit to one I found in a catalog.
Like you, Francie is my favorite character in the Barbie lineup. I only own one, but she’s the brunette with bangs (fringes). That was my favorite of the Francie styles.
I’m a little envious of your Black Francie. They are so rare! I would love to own one myself.
