It’s time to plan my next online class, and I’d like your help!
If you visit the C&T Publishing online courses page, you’ll find that some of their best-selling classes range between $4.99 and $10.00, so I’ve been thinking about designing and offering an online course in that price range.
To be fair, it would have to be a reasonably simple class at that price. The people at C&T Publishing help decide on the fee for the class, and if I include more videos, they will charge more. So I would have to keep the class concept simple. (Please continue reading…)
Some ideas I’ve had include:
- “Basic Summer Sundress Design for Any Doll” — This may take two to three videos, but it would show you how to design one style of sundress for any size doll, using felt for a simple bodice and cotton for the skirt.
- “Doll Skirt Basics” — This will show you how to make a basic doll’s skirt fuller, less full, longer, and shorter, with a simple elastic-waist skirt that uses a casing. If you’ve taken my longer, “How to Alter Doll Clothes Sewing Patterns” course, this will be the same lesson from the basic skirts section, minus the part about how to make a waistband.
- “Peg Dolls” — In this class, I’ll show you how to make a simple doll from a wooden peg. I’ll include a pattern for felt overalls that are glued onto the male doll and a simple skirt that’s gathered, hemmed, and glued onto the female doll. I’ve taught this with my students at middle school, and they thought it was really fun.
- “Christmas Bears” — In this class, I would teach you how to make a very simple bear out of two swatches of felt. You will get to choose between a Christmas tree ornament bear (small) and a plush toy bear (medium sized). We will whipstitch the outside of the bear and use buttons for eyes.
- “Doll Sewing Basics” — If I offered this class, it would be more of a lecture than a sew-with-me project. I would discuss how sewing for baby dolls is different from sewing for Barbie dolls and how sewing for six inch dolls is different from sewing for the bigger 18 inch dolls.

DISCUSSION QUESTION:
Do any of the ideas listed above sound appealing? If so, which ones? Please add your advice/suggestions/ideas in the comments section below!
If you can think of a class concept idea that would only require one to three, five-minute videos, please let me know. I really want to keep the concepts simple, so people can easily afford to take this class.
And if there’s anything you’re struggling with at home while you sew my patterns, please let me know. It could be worth offering a class on that concept. I’m anxious to hear your ideas in the comments section!

I like the peg doll idea.
Hi, I like the peg dolls idea and the Christmas bears one, even if you can consider to make bears for different occasions. Valentine maybe with a heart, birthdays or other occasions with small flowers etc
Bears for different occasions What a nice idea! I love that! Thanks, Marco!
