For those of you who live in the United States, let me start by wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving!

It has been a while since we’ve seen Judy Littlechap, the doll I found at my local Goodwill for $2.50 and decided I wanted to design a wardrobe for her.

This is the cover of a product brochure for Remco Littlechap dolls. The cover reads, "The Littlechap Family," and this booklet was published in 1963 with the Littlechap family dolls. A purple arrow points at Judy Littlechap, the teenage daughter doll, who stands 13 inches doll and wears a pink satin dress with a fat pink bow in front. The dolls' clothes are very reminiscent of the Kennedy family, of President JFK and Jackie Kennedy, and their children. The Chelly Wood dot com logo appears below and to the right of the brochure image, reminding us to visit ChellyWood.com for free printable PDF sewing patterns for making doll clothes for dolls of many shapes and sizes.

Judy is a 13 inch fashion doll, so she’s a wee bit bigger than a typical Barbie. Keep that in mind if you’re thinking about making these shoes to fit Barbie; they probably won’t fit.

A doll is seen from the thigh down, wearing a white skirt dotted with heart-shaped flowers. She wears a pair of yellow felt shoes, and the yellow felt is similar to (but only slightly brighter than) the yellow of the flowers which dot the skirt in yellow, orange, and blue.

Today’s tutorial video shows you how to make a pair of felt shoes, which are designed to fit Judy Littlechap dolls. I made this pattern as an early prototype to the pink satin shoes, which you can learn more about at this link.

To make these felt shoes, you’ll need some simple craft felt.

A Judy Littlechap fashion doll (made by Remco) stands erect, facing the right of the viewer. She's modeling a handmade dress in shades of yellow, white, and pastel colors with a pair of yellow handmade shoes (made of the same yellow felt as her dress's bodice).

We’ll look at making the felt-and-cotton dress another day.

The pattern link below is the same pattern that I used to make the pretty pink satin dress with a bow. If you’d like to learn how to make the satin dress with a bow, click here. I posted that tutorial back in July of last year.

A doll's feet are shown in a pair of simple yellow felt shoes with no straps or embellishments. The doll's feet appear to be photoshopped onto a wooden floor with Christmas lights and glitter as a backdrop behind the doll's feet.

The pattern asks you to “cut 2 of cotton or satin,” but just ignore those instructions for today’s tutorial. Cut the shoe pieces out of felt, just as it tells you to do in the video.

Furthermore, you’ll only need the outer shoe and the sole pattern pieces. You won’t need the lining piece, if you’re going to make these out of felt.

This image shows the bodice and shoe patterns for a Judy Littlechap pink satin dress. It includes the pattern pieces for the bow. Patterns are marked with the Creative Commons Attribution symbol, and there are five purple flowers in a row, featured at the bottom of the pattern, to indicate that this is a pattern for advanced sewists.

The 13-inch Judy Littlechap dolls were only produced by Remco for one year, and by the end of 1963, the whole family of Remco Littlechap dolls were discontinued. Today, Remco still produces toys, but the Littlechap family of dolls, which included Doctor John Littlechap, his wife Lisa Littlechap, teenage daughter Judy Littlechap, and younger sister, Libby Littlechap, are no longer available in stores. You can, however, find and collect all of them at very reasonable prices, on eBay. Visit the Remco website to see what toys and games they offer today.
