Make a swingy crop top and Shorts for Mattel’s Stacie dolls with today’s free PDF sewing patterns @ ChellyWood.com

Framed by a purple polka dot border, this is a photo of a Mattel Stacie doll wearing a pair of black and white checkered gingham shorts with an orange swingy vest (UK term) or tank top (US terms). This is the black Mattel Stacie doll, with a cute natural afro in a big pony tail on top of her little head. She holds her arms out, to show the swingy nature of the tank top. Her legs are only shoulders' length apart, demonstrating that the shorts have a bit of flare to them. She wears little white flats which are nearly invisible on the white floor she stands on. Behind her is a blue screen, making the whole doll and her brightly colored outfit really pop! Today’s project is a swingy summer top and a pair of elastic waist shorts, which will fit Mattel’s Stacie dolls. The Stacie doll modeling the outfit is my lovely African American Stacie, but the outfit will fit any 9 inch Mattel Stacie dolls with the contemporary body type.

Here we see three images of black Stacie doll modeling a handmade pair of black and white gingham shorts and a swingy orange sleeveless summer shirt (aka tank top or vest in the United Kingdom). In the left-hand image, Stacie is photographed from above; in the middle image, she's photographed in profile; on the right, we see a straight-forward photo of Stacie doll. This highlights the general fit of the summer doll clothes, including the swingy attribute of the shirt and the flair of the shorts around her thigh areas. This crop top is especially swingy, as you can see in the image above. I used a strip of 3/4 inch wide Velcro cut in half down the middle (cut vertically, down the middle of the long strip) for my back closure on the shirt.

The shorts can be made from Halloween print fabric, stretch denim, or just basic cotton fabric. They use 1/8 inch wide elastic from Elastic by the Yard for the waist.

The shirt is made of solid cotton, and as I said, you’ll need some sew-on Velcro for your closure.
