Today I’m sharing the pattern and tutorial for making a cute little raglan-sleeved T-shirt (sometimes spelled tee shirt) and casual pajama pants to fit Elf on the Shelf dolls. The shirt was designed to fit Skipper, but the pants were designed to fit GI Joe and Broad Ken.

So I think it would be safe to say that the Elf on the Shelf has a very unique build! I would also like to point out (as shown below), that he came with bent knees (see Figure 1) and feet that are pointy like toothpicks.

In Figure 1, Elf on the Shelf is shown from a front view and a side view. We can see that his feet come to an unnatural point, and his knees are permanently bent. In figure 2, Elf on the Shelf's pointed foot can barely be seen under the hem of his jeans. In figure 3, two straight pins have been stuck through the joint in the Elf on the Shelf's Knees. In Figure 4, Elf on the Shelf is shown wearing his pointy hat and zigzag stiff collar.

And since his feet are super pointy, they don’t exactly stick out from under his pajama pants (see Figure 2). Furthermore, I had to prop him up, using straight pins at the back of his legs (Figure 3).

In this close-up of Elf on the Shelf in his pajama tee shirt, we can clearly see the zigzag felt edge of his collar extending out under the T-shirt he wears.

And his little zig-zag collar (see Figure 4 up above) makes an awkward “boob shelf” in this Skipper-sized T-shirt. So there’s that. But hey, if you don’t mind all these quirks, this pajama set will definitely work for your Elf on the Shelf dolls!

You can even make the pants out of less pajama-like fabric, to pull off a jeans-and-tee-shirt look, if that’s what you want!

Wearing handmade pajamas, Elf on the Shelf waves awkwardly to the viewers.

To make the raglan sleeve tee, you will need some jersey fabric and size 4/0 Dritz snaps. To make the pull-on pants, you’ll need some cotton fabric and 1/8 inch elastic.

Today’s T-shirt patterns will fit these dolls:*

*(Note: the pants will only fit Elf on the Shelf, vintage Tammy, and various Ken dolls/GI Joe action figures)
