This week I’m giving you a brand new pattern for a “saucy” little hat that will fit dolls with a head circumference of 6 and a quarter inches (that’s 15.8 cm in metric terms).
I designed this hat when I was taking a women’s history course at Boise State University. One of the instructors in that course was very kind to me, and even walked along the Boise Greenbelt with me. We shared stories of our family heritage and the women from our families who had inspired us.
This particular instructor was very moved by a little-known woman in history, whose name was Rose Winslow. (Click on the link I’ve provided to learn more about Rose–AKA Ruza.)
I designed today’s hat as part of a full outfit from the early Women’s Civil Liberties movement, inspired very much by a photo I found of Rose Winslow online while doing research for my Boise State University class.
At the end of the class, we were all given a chance to present what we had learned. This little doll and her 1920’s-style outfit became part of my final PowerPoint presentation. I think the class was awed by what I had created, and someone dubbed this, Rose’s “Saucy hat!”
