Over the course of the last couple of weeks, I’ve been developing tutorial videos that show you how to make the entire ensemble you see at the top of today’s post.
This outfit includes a short, raglan-style sleeved shirt that’s slightly cropped, a pair of trousers, and a pair of soft felt shoes, and as always, I’ve got the free sewing patterns for making the whole ensemble, in the third set of bullets below.

The athletic gear version of today’s outfit was made by cutting the trousers/pants pattern from a boy’s thrift store athletic shirt’s sleeve.
The second-hand shirt already had two tones, and I simply laid my pants pattern over the seam in the shirt’s sleeve, pinned it in place, and cut it out with the two tones you see in the image above.
So there are many ways to make today’s outfit. You’re only limited by your own creative boundaries!
The shoes are pretty easy to make. The trick to the shoes is:
- Mark them with R for Right Foot and L for Left Foot before you begin to sew them
- Set one foot’s pattern pieces aside before you start to sew the other foot’s shoe together
- Make sure you flip the notch around to the mirror image of the previous shoe before you start to sew the second shoe
And, of course, I give you these guidelines in the tutorial video.
To make today’s doll clothes ensemble, you will likely need one or more of the following items:
- craft felt on Amazon (for the shoes) AND
- cotton fabric OR
- cotton fat quarters (18 inches by 21 inches of fabric) OR
- cotton/polyester blend fabrics OR
- jersey fabric (for athletic pants)
- 1/2 inch wide sew-on Velcro (for the shirt’s closure)
- 1/4 inch wide elastic
- chopsticks (for inverting doll clothes)
- Fiskars Stitchers mini snips (for clipping seams efficiently)
- Gutermann sewing machine thread
