#Sewing Measurements for Broad Ken #Dolls @ ChellyWood.com

The pattern above (also available here) not only fits GI Joe action figures, but it also fits the new Broad Ken dolls. I recently received a question from one of my followers about the differences between Broad Ken and Original Ken dolls.

This is an important question, because the tinier the doll clothes, the more essential it is to get every inch–or in this case every millimeter–of measurement just right.

Since I had recently taken the dolls’ comparative measurements for this particular follower, I thought I’d share the results with everyone right here. (I hope you don’t mind, Kathy…)

Regular Ken/Ryan Dolls:
Broad Ken Doll Measurements:
  • Neck circumference… 8.7 cm
  • Neck to shoulder seam… 3 cm
  • Collar to true waist… 7.5 cm
  • Underarm to true waist… 4.5 cm
  • Sleeve inseam (underarm to cuff)… 7.6 cm
  • Sleeve from shoulder seam to cuff… 10 cm
  • Sleeve circumference (upper arm bicep)…  8.5 cm
  • Waist… 15 cm
  • Pants inseam (crotch to just below the ankle bone)… 13.6 cm
  • Pants outer leg seam (waist to just below the ankle bone)… 17.2 cm
  • Pants leg circumference (upper thigh)… 10 cm
None of these measurements include seam allowances, so please bear that in mind.
You can find the directions for making the shorts shown in my pattern above, at this link, but I’m still processing the pants pattern. They do fit Broad Ken as you can see in the image below, but with a little work, I might be able to make them fit with a more tailored look.

They look very nice as pajama pants. Also, with an elastic waist, it’s easy for young children to get them on and off the Ken dolls.

However I might lower the waistline a bit more before I finalize this pattern.

I really like the sailboats-and-anchors pattern on those pajama pants! But I’m anxious to do more with this pattern, maybe taking it in a bit before creating the tutorial video to go with it.

That’s one of the many projects I want to work on during my Christmas vacation from my day job as a school librarian.
