“How to Alter Doll Clothes Patterns” Class Update @ctpublishing #DollClothesPatterns #DollCollector

In this image, we see a smattering of tools that will be needed to take the Creative Spark course on doll clothes pattern alterations with Chelly Wood. The items include the following: a doll, a ruler with metric and imperial measurements, a pencil with an eraser, graph paper, patterns that don't quite fit your doll, fabric, craft felt, ribbons, elastic, and post-it notes or scratch paper.

I’m a school librarian in my “day job,” so over spring break, I brainstormed with my editor at C&T Publishing’s Creative Spark online learning platform. I wondered why so many people were curious about my class, but so few people actually signed up for it.

My editor and I decided that the general audience didn’t understand a key element of my class: how to re-size a pattern.

Yes, my “How to Alter Doll Clothes Patterns” course will teach you how to make significant changes to pants, shirts, sleeves, skirts, and dresses (which is what “alteration” means, of course), but the REAL GEM of my class is my re-sizing formula.

It helps you take a pattern that fits one doll:

And re-size that pattern to fit a different doll:

Believe it or not, you don’t have to be good at math to work with my formula. Math is definitely not my strong suit, but I seem to make it work every time. Just look at how great Velvet‘s swimsuit turned out!

So I spent my spring break re-designing my “instructor’s landing page” video for the Creative Spark online learning platform. Hopefully my editor at Creative Spark has had time to change the video to this newer one.

And hopefully this newer video is more appealing to the people who stumble across it.

And hopefully a few more people will sign up for my course!
