This week’s #SewingBlogger Thursday includes a pattern that I’ve used before for other small dolls, but I made today’s tutorial in response to a request made by two different visitors to ChellyWood.com: Jason and Sharon.
Now Sharon’s Strawberry Shortcake was a little smaller than mine, but as you’ll see in the video, my dress ended up a wee bit too short anyhow (see image below). So Sharon, I’m guessing this pattern will still fit your doll.
I can’t remember if Jason’s doll was the same as mine or different, but as Jason pointed out, “There aren’t any patterns for Strawberry Shortcake out there in the world…” Well guess what, Jason: now there are! Thanks for letting me know that this pattern needed to be invented!
The PDF pattern below will fit my 7-inch Strawberry Shortcake doll, if you attach an opaque petticoat to lengthen the skirt a bit, as the tutorial suggests:
You may have noticed that my Strawberry Shortcake doll doesn’t have red or pink hair. Her hair is actually yellow. I think she might be an Angel Cake doll created by the Playmates company, which I believe was making dolls in the first decade of the 2000’s.
If you can positively identify her for me, that would be great! Just leave a comment about what you know. Here she is again, and those pink shoes came with her (although she was otherwise naked when I bought her at a second hand store):
Older Strawberry Shortcake dolls were much smaller, so if you make a dress for them, you may not need the petticoat.
I do recommend for the 7-inch dolls, however, that you make your petticoat out of fabric that’s a little less transparent than mine. The final dress ended up just barely passing the panty-peek test! So maybe use eyelet or even solid white fabric for your petticoat.
