Did your school play get cancelled due to school closure? Consider this: re-create your kids’ or grandkids’ school play with dolls!

The video gives you some great ideas for adapting free patterns found here at ChellyWood.com and using stop-motion phone apps to make a miniature version of the school play that never made it to the stage.

Please scroll to the very bottom of this page for today’s free ghost costume pattern.

One of the costume suggestions was to adapt my free 5 inch doll “ghost” costume to turn it into a cactus. For this fun adaptation, I used the T-shirt pattern from Tuesday’s blog post to create the curly flower on top of Chelsea’s cactus costume.

Just cut the T-shirt pattern out of felt and whirl it around your finger, like you see me doing here:

The 5-inch doll’s Ghost costume pattern is used for the body of the cactus. Click on this link for the free printable PDF sewing pattern for my ghost costume.

My sleeves were made of a rectangle of felt, which you can see below:

I din’t measure those two little swatches of felt for the arm pieces. I just kind of eyeballed it. Then I rolled each one and sewed them into cylindrical shapes.
Of course you have to cut out arm holes in the sides of the cactus or ghost.
Next I pinned and finally stitched the flower onto the top of the cactus. Note the small yellow pin holding my flower in place:
If you look carefully at the final photo, you’ll see that the arm tubes aren’t attached to the rest of the cactus. I just placed my Chelsea doll’s arms in the air, and slid each tube of green felt onto her arms.
And that’s it!

I suppose you could use the ghost pattern to make other “school play” characters… sew it out of yellow felt and make an orange mane for a Lion King school play, for example. It’s really up to the imagination!

Just in case you didn’t catch those links earlier, here are the patterns and tutorial video for making the original ghost outfit…
