Please keep me in your prayers!

Text at the top of the image says "on the mend" and behind the photo at the center of this image, we see tiny flowers strung together, a silk flower, and various color blocks. The photo shows a woman's hand draping down from a hospital bed. The hand has an IV taped to it. This is not an actual photo of Chelly Wood's hand, but very representative of what she was going through as she searched for a diagnosis for her illness. She spent two days in the emergency room before it was discovered that she has West Nile Virus. The heading "on the mend" is hopeful, as are the flowers. Please keep doll clothing designer and YouTuber Chelly Wood in your thoughts and prayers as she recovers from this deadly virus.

Please keep me in your prayers everyone.

I spent two days in the hospital before the doctors discovered that I have West Nile Virus.

I’m back at home now, but like “Long Covid,” the after effects of West Nile Virus can lead to long-term complications.

Right now I’m on strict bed rest, so I’ll be “out of the office” for a while, as far as this website and my YouTube channel goes.

A yellow wooden sign that says "closed" hangs on a pink door. This is framed by a computer window (like "Windows two-point-oh"). The image represents the fact that Chelly Wood dot com is not posting new material for a while, while the doll clothing designer, Chelly Wood, recovers from West Nile Virus.

It’s weird to be at home but not using my sewing room.

I have to look in there when I get up to use the bathroom, and my little sewing table and ironing board look like they were abandoned in the middle of some sort of apocalypse.

The image shows a sewing machine with a tiny pink swatch of fabric between the presser foot and the feed dogs. Thread, bobbins, and other sewing tools are scattered around a white table top near the sewing machine's base. This image represents Chelly's sewing room while she recovers from West Nile Virus.

Because the hospital performed what’s called a “spinal tap” on my nervous system, and because my recovery from the spinal tap surgery isn’t going as smoothly as it should be, I’m not allowed to sit upright, like I would need to, when using a sewing machine.

Everything I do to entertain myself has to be done while I sit in an easy chair, reclined at a 30 degree angle. Ugh!

But as you may have heard, West Nile Virus can be deadly. It can also lead to things like paralysis. So I have to follow the doctor’s orders.

What can I do? I’ve made a shortlist, a sort of hopeful set of goals, while I’m stuck at home:

A swirly cursive text says, "super basic goals" over the top of a scrap of paper, upon which is written these four goals: get healthy; sew a few things by hand; learn how to set up a shopping tool on my website; read a book or two. Photos representing each of these goals show a.) a street sign connecting the street called "healthy" to the street called "life," b.) a woman's hands stitching a button onto fabric, a laptop open to a shopping page, and a stack of books. These are Chelly Wood's simple, basic goals to achieve while she recovers from West Nile Virus.

You might be wondering what you can do to help.

Prayers.

Pray for my full recovery.

Pray for strength and courage because I’m in a lot of pain.

Pray for support from my family and community.

Pray that I will be strong enough to take care of me, when all I want to do is go back to my job and be a wife and mother, and feed my little kitty cats, and make crafty doll-related things, and be up out of bed and doing productive stuff.

It’s really HARD to just sit around, but please pray that I’ll do just that.

And…

The image shows a hand holding up a heart. The words in the air above the heart say "send a little love my way" and below the hand is the URL Chelly Wood dot com. 22. Praying for you. Your job right now is to get plenty of rest and beat this quite nasty virus. Thanks to your patterns and tutorials, my grand daughter has the best dressed Barbie ever! Just don’t let any kitty get too used to sitting on your lap – ever try to run a sewing machine with a cat “helper”?

  23. I am so sorry. I had long covid and it nearly killed me in December. I collapsed as could no longer absorb oxygen and was in intensive care for 10 days. When released from hospital, I was told to DO NOTHING for 3 weeks, no work, no hobbies, no going out, no visitors, It was the longest three weeks of my life but I am back to full health now. I feel for you, I wish you a speedy recovery and do as the doctors say.

  24. Thank you so much, everyone! I’m feeling a little better today (Thursday 25th of May), but by no means fully recovered. I appreciate your heartfelt kind words, thoughts, and prayers.

Keep those prayers coming! They are making a positive difference!

    1. So sorry you are not well; your site is so much fun. It’s a virus I have never heard of, so with a quick check out with Mr Google it was clear it is most unpleasant! I really hope you are improving and that each day brings a bit more sunshine and recovery.

  25. THANKYOU and Get Well Soon!!!!
You have given us sew much, the least we can do is give you our best wishes and keep you in our thoughts, hoping for a healthy recovery 🙂
