In 2020 we celebrate the 100th anniversary of women’s right to vote in the USA #suffrage #votes4women #embroidery

Today’s video tutorial will show you how to make a “Votes for Women” sash for your 1:6 scale dolls.

The following additional tutorials will likely help you with this sewing and embroidery project:

Couching stitch (embroidery)

How to attach bias tape

Whipstitch

Backstitch

How to sew snaps on fabric

If you’re looking for a fun project that teaches a child or a beginning sewist how to do some basic hand stitching, this project is ideal for just that.

It’s also a great lesson in the Women’s Suffrage Movement, if there are any history teachers out there (or just people who find that period in history interesting).

In case you weren’t aware, in 2020, citizens of the United States will be celebrating the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment to the US Constitution. That’s the amendment that gave women the right to vote in the USA.

Since I’m a school librarian in my day job, I hope to do some fun activities with my students regarding the celebration of this momentous occasion, in which American women first gained their right to vote.

Please feel free to share my videos, free patterns, and creative projects with your friends and family on social media. Here’s an easy-to-pin image to help you do so:

The image shows a fashion doll in both black-and-white and color, modeling a women's suffrage sash. The overlay says "ChellyWood.com" (indicating where you can find the tutorial that shows you how to make a similar sash for your fashion dolls like Barbie, Monster High, Ever After High, and Francie).
Visit ChellyWood.com for the tutorial video that shows you how to make a women’s suffrage sash for your fashion dolls like this “votes for women” sash that’s modeled here in celebration of the ratification of the 19th Amendment to the US Constitution. This tutorial makes a great educational craft projects for beginners who are learning to sew, embroidery enthusiasts, and even kids in history classes.

  1. Ah I love this! I helped to design and make banners for the Processions March in London a couple of years ago to celebrate the women who fought for our right to vote 💜💚

  2. It was a very fun and interesting experience, I learnt a lot about many inspiring local women when we were designing our flag, the leader of the company I was working with even got interviewed on the BBC!
