It’s a CONTEST! Win free #fabric, snaps, and buttons so you can sew clothes like my #dolls

The image shows a swatch of purple and pink floral fabric that measures 10 3/4 inches by 10 3/4 inches, square. It rests atop a swatch of lavender-colored fabric of the same size. There are also two teeny-tiny buttons and five tiny snaps featured in the image. This image is a photo of the tiny swatches of fabric, the buttons, and the snaps that will be sent to the winner of a contest on ChellyWood.com

It has been a while since I offered a contest on ChellyWood.com, but I thought it might be fun to see if you can guess which of my dolls can fit into these doll clothes:

Soul, one of the 9-inch World of Love dolls from Hasbro, stands alone in a room with a single office chair and window. She wears capri pants made of a cotton fabric that's decorated with tiny pink flowers and lavender-colored vines. She wears a matching lavender shirt with two tiny buttons at the top. The shirt has long sleeves and a conservative rounded neckline but no collar. She wears tiny white plastic flats. If you would like to make an outfit like this for your 9-inch (23 cm) dolls, you can find the free, printable PDF patterns at ChellyWood.com along with tutorial videos showing how to make both the shirt and the capri pants. The website is marked with the creative commons attribution mark, so by downloading these patterns, you agree to share them on social media and tell where they came from.
Please visit ChellyWood.com for free, printable sewing patterns for dolls of many shapes and sizes.

Soul (the African American doll) was part of a collection of vintage dolls called the World of Love dolls.

If you’d like to learn more about the World of Love dolls and the outfits they wore in their time, navigate over to Plaid Stallions, a website dedicated to all things 1970’s.

Now that you know a little about the World of Love dolls , who do you think can swap clothes with them?

Contest details are below. The winner will receive in the postal mail, the fabric (two swatches of 10 and 3/4 inches by 10 and 3/4 inches fabric, one floral and one solid), plus five snaps, and two tiny buttons shown at the top of this post.

There’s enough fabric there to make the floral pants and lavender-colored top that I posted pictures of on yesterday’s blog post and again just above.

I’ll be posting patterns and tutorials for making this whole outfit during the month of October.

Contest Details:

To win, read the doll descriptions in the bulleted area below. Each doll being described is among the dolls mentioned somewhere on this website. (It may help to navigate around the website to look through all the dolls I have in my collection at home.) Each of the dolls being described in the bulleted section is also able to fit into the doll clothes that my World of Love Soul doll is wearing in the image above.

Choose one of the descriptions below and make a guess. Which doll am I describing? Leave a comment with your guess on this page.

  • Doll #1: This doll is the 9″ little sister of a famous blond beauty who lives in a dreamy house. A recent incarnation of this 9-inch doll plays goalie for a soccer team, goes fishing, and participates in gymnastics. She fits nicely into the outfits shown in the images above. Can you guess which sister she is?
  • Doll #2: This doll was invented by a famous singer and entertainer. The doll is very articulated and has blond “space buns” in her hair. The animated style of her television series is a lot like Japanese anime. On her show, she’s the leader of her musical group. She will also fit in the handmade doll clothes shown above, but she stands 9 and a half inches tall, with a much larger head than most playscale dolls.
  • Doll #3: This doll has unusually pink skin. She has a red heart on her left cheek. She attends a high school where even the most unusual creatures are welcome. Although she’s taller than the other two, standing at 10 and a half inches tall, she will also fit into the outfits shown at the top of this blog post.

The first person to guess the name of one of these dolls correctly will win the two squares of fabric plus the tiny buttons and the snaps. The contest ends at midnight on Thursday, October 3rd, Mountain Standard Time. Comments will not be approved for public display until Friday, October 4th after 8:00 AM (because I will be working late on Wednesday and Thursday). Your guess must be an actual name, like Bob, Sally, or Vivienne. A brand name (like Hasbro) will not count as a right answer.

Disclaimers and Rules: No purchase is necessary. Dolls, shoes, stands, hats, backdrops, props, and other accessories along with any items shown in advertisements are not included. ONE WINNER shall be chosen based on the accuracy of his/her guess and the timestamp of his/her comment. Multiple entries do not increase your chances of winning, nor do additional methods of entry (I believe that’s a rule for sweepstakes here in the US, which is why I included it here–and that simply means that you can only guess once; additional guesses submitted from the same person will be disqualified and deleted). Sweepstakes begins on Tuesday, October 1st, 2019 at 7:00 AM Mountain Standard Time and ends at midnight on Thursday, October 3rd, 2019. You must be 18 years of age or older, as of Tuesday, October 1st, in order to enter. If you are underage, please have a parent or guardian who is 18 or older enter for you. This sweepstakes is sponsored by the doll clothing designer, Chelly Wood. Questions, comments, or concerns should be sent via email, using the “Submit a Question” button on this website. The prize includes two squares of fabric, two tiny buttons, and five snaps. Dolls, shoes, stands, hats, backdrops, props, and other accessories along with any items shown in advertisements are NOT INCLUDED in this sweepstakes.

In the case that more than one person guesses correctly within the same timestamp, a single winner will be drawn, at random, from all entries with the identical first timestamp.

My home has a cat, so if you’re allergic to cats, you may want to avoid entering this contest.

The entire prize will be sent via US Postal Service without charge to the winner. Its approximate value is $4.00 US, plus shipping and handling. There will only be one winner chosen from all entries submitted between 7:00 AM on Tuesday, October 1st and midnight on October 3rd, 2019. A winner will be announced on this blog, within ten days of the drawing, in a blog post. The winner will be contacted via e-mail or by way of blog comments. If the winner does not leave contact information via his/her entry, he or she must contact Chelly Wood by midnight on October 11th, in order to claim his/her prize. Otherwise, the prize will go to a runner-up (based on the timestamp for first qualifying right answers).

This sweepstakes is only available to citizens of the United States, who are living within the United States, and void where prohibited.

    1. Congratulations, Breana! You’re the winner!

Yes, Draculaura is a doll that I own, and she can wear the doll clothes that you can make using this week’s patterns (and next week’s patterns). She has a heart on one cheek, and her skin is very pink.

Because your comment has the earliest time stamp (8:37 AM on October 1st), you win the fabric swatches, buttons, and snaps. Please contact me using the “Submit a Question” button, to provide me your snail mail address, so I can send you the prize.

      Thanks!

    1. I don’t own Sailor Moon or Charlie’s Angels, so I can’t confirm this. However Breana’s timestamp for her comment (which I can confirm) was first, so she beat you to the punch.

But Rita, if you do decide to sew these doll clothes for Sailor Moon and/or Charlie’s Angels, please take the time to leave a follow-up comment, letting us know whether or not these patterns will fit them. It could benefit other sewists!

  1. I know it is too late to be a winner (congratulations Breana!) but the # 1 could be Skipper . I have 2 little We friends dolls who both have skipper bodies and they will be very happy with this new pattern. so I won anyway 😉 Thanks your patterns are ALWAYS appreciated

    1. Actually, Skipper is too big for these patterns. Can you think of the name of the next sister down the family tree? Skipper is 10 inches tall. Who is 9 inches tall?
