Let’s measure BFC Ink #dolls on #TapeMeasureTuesday and compare to a 14″ #doll

The image shows a BFC Ink doll standing next to a Hearts for Hearts Girl (Consuelo). They both wear felt shirts with no sleeves. The BFC Ink doll's clothes can be described like this: white felt sleeveless top with blue plaid skirt that has knife pleats. The skirt is knee-length on the BFC Ink doll. The Hearts4Hearts doll's clothes can be described thus: pink sleeveless top with knee-length polka dot skirt. The image is part of a hashtag tape measure Tuesday measurements comparison on ChellyWood.com, which is meant to help doll clothes sewists / seamstresses with doll measurements for sewing projects. The image should be compared to another similar image toward the bottom of the blog post, in which the two dolls stand side by side again, but wearing each other's clothing in a clothes swap.

This week’s sewing project not only fits the little 14 inch (35.5 cm) Hearts for Hearts Girls, but surprisingly, it can also fit the 18 inch (45 cm) tall BFC Ink dolls. How can this be possible? Here are the sewing measurements for both dolls:

BFC Ink

  • Neck circumference… 9.5 cm
  • Neck to shoulder seam… 3 cm
  • Bust… 20.4 cm
  • Collar to true waist… 8 cm
  • Underarm to true waist… 4.2 cm
  • Sleeve inseam (underarm to cuff)… 11.8 cm
  • Sleeve from shoulder seam to cuff… 14.8 cm
  • Sleeve circumference (full underarm joint)… 10.5 cm
  • Waist… 16.5 cm
  • Hip circumference… 22.5 cm
  • Pants inseam (crotch to just below the ankle bone)… 17.5 cm
  • Pants outseam (waist to just below the ankle bone)… 23.7 cm
  • Pants leg circumference (upper thigh)… 12.1 cm
  • Height not including hair… 17 and 3/4 inches or 45 cm

Hearts for Hearts Girls

  • Neck circumference… 10 cm
  • Neck to shoulder seam… 2 cm
  • Bust 16.7 cm
  • Collar to true waist… 7.5 cm
  • Underarm to true waist… 4.2 cm
  • Sleeve inseam (underarm to cuff)… 9 cm
  • Sleeve from shoulder seam to cuff… 10.4 cm
  • Sleeve circumference…  9.5 cm (cuff)
  • Waist… 15.2 cm
  • Hip circumference… 18.6 cm
  • Pants inseam (crotch to just below the ankle bone)… 13.5 cm
  • Pants outseam (waist to just below the ankle bone)… 19 cm
  • Pants leg circumference (upper thigh)… 11 cm
  • Height not including hair… 14 inches or 35.5 cm

As you can see in the image below, these two dolls can swap clothes to some extent (compare to the photo at the top). However skirt lengths are going to look different on each doll, as will pants. But short-sleeved shirts and a pair of shorts will fit them much the same way.

This image and another on the same blog post prove that Hearts for Hearts girls and BFC Ink dolls, though they're different heights, can swap clothes to some extent. In this image, we see the Hearts for Hearts doll Consuelo, wearing the same white felt top and knife pleated plaid skirt that the BFC Ink doll wore in the image at the top of the page. The BFC Ink doll wears the same pink felt top and polka dot skirt that the Hearts for Hearts Girl doll wore in the previous image. However the polka dot skirt fits the BFC Ink doll as a mini-skirt, and the plaid knife-pleated skirt fits the shorter doll (the H4H doll) as a calf-length skirt. This image is watermarked with ChellyWood.com and is part of our hastag tape measure Tuesday sequence of blog posts, chronicling the sewing measurements of various dolls for sewing purposes.

    1. I’m not sure. It depends upon her measurements.

I suggest you measure her and compare your measurements to other dolls in my Tape Measure Tuesday posts: https://chellywood.com/category/tapemeasuretuesday/

If you go to the “Tips and FAQ’s” page, you’ll find a link to the “How to Measure Your Doll” video, so you’ll know how this is done (if needed).

Once you’ve measured Tiny Thumbelina, compare her measurements to the measurements of other dolls until you find a match. For dresses, the upper body needs to be close to the same measurements, like the neck-to-shoulder and the bust, for example. You can always lengthen a skirt to suit the doll’s height, but it’s that upper body that must match the pattern for the bodice part of my dress patterns to fit her.
