I had a birthday last week, and holy cow! I got a bunch of new dolls! I have a lot of projects underway, including finishing up Romeo and Juliet, finishing the patterns for my Barbie wedding set, etc. But once I get all of those projects caught up, I’ll definitely be designing doll clothes for Hearts 4 Hearts, Wellie Wishers, and possibly an American Girl doll, as well as my new/used Velvet doll.

At this time, the question isn’t what patterns to design; the question is what patterns I should not design.

You see, a lot of my friends on Facebook design doll clothes for these little dollies. I don’t want to offer free patterns for any outfits that are too similar to their best-selling items because they’ll lose sales.

So if you’re a doll clothes designer for AG/Wellie Wishers or Hearts4Hearts, and you don’t want me to provide free patterns for an outfit similar to the ones you’re making lots of money on, please leave a comment below. Let me know what you’d rather I didn’t design.

For example, one of my Facebook friends designed AG doll scrubs, the clothes like nurses wear. This particular pattern was very unique to her collection and it sold very well… until another doll clothes designer stole the idea and offered a similar pattern for less money.

I don’t want to be that kind of doll clothes designer! I don’t want to rain on other people’s parades! So please let me know what your best selling outfits are, so I won’t design anything in that category.

There is a caveat:  I’m planning to design and post some of the basics–a tee-shirt pattern, a pants pattern, a skirt pattern, etc.–but a lot of these kinds of patterns are already available on Pinterest anyway. So providing the same sort of patterns here probably won’t be robbing anyone of possible business transactions.

Overall, I’m very excited about designing some cute outfits for these new dolls! I hope my regular followers are equally excited!

As I said, though, I have a lot of projects already underway at this time, so expect to see patterns for these 14″, 16″, and 18″ dolls closer to summer, 2018.

Recently, some of my followers have wondered what motivates me to give my patterns away for free.

First of all, I’m a librarian by trade. Librarians love free stuff! We believe that the more a person knows, the more enriched their life will be. So it may sound kind of crazy, but I want ChellyWood.com to become a sort of Gutenberg Library of free patterns that help people learn to sew doll clothes.

Please note: you must enlarge my patterns to fit a full-sized piece of American computer paper (8.5 x 11 inches or 216 x 279 mm) without margins, before printing. These designs use a scant 1/4 inch seam (4 mm to be exact).

My patterns are now available through “Creative Commons Attribution.” This means that I created my patterns (and therefore I own rights to them), but I’m willing to share them with everyone who will tell people about my website.

Here are some helpful ways to tell the world about my patterns:

• You can pin them on Pinterest.
• You can like them on Facebook.
• You can tweet about them.
• Use any other form of social media that appeals to you!
