Hey #Dollfriends! Which #Dolls do you #sew for?

My regular followers are aware that I’ve been setting goals for 2018 during the month of January. And I’ve been especially curious about who you are and what you want from my blog. I offered a poll on January 5th, and that first poll showed the following results:

  • 32% of you want intermediate and beginner doll clothes patterns from ChellyWood.com
  • 24% of you want doll crafts like DIY furniture projects for dolls
  • 16% of you want SUPER EASY doll clothes patterns for beginners
  • 8% of you want doll sewing tips like where to buy buttons, how to buy fabric, etc.
  • 4% of you want no-sew doll clothes projects
  • 4% of you want hand embroidery tutorials for doll clothes & miniatures

But 12% of you sort of jumped the gun…! You picked “other” and named the doll you want me to design clothes for. What can I say? Great minds think alike!

My next poll–today’s poll–asks you to specify which dolls you like to sew for most. In other words, for which dolls should I design more patterns in 2018? Please tell me which doll’s clothing patterns you’d like me to design, and if you have a specific request, please leave it in the comments below this blog post.

As the year progresses, I intend to design clothes for the dolls you love best! So please vote! Have your say! It’s time for me to learn a little more about you and what you want most from my website and my YouTube channel.

Thanks, in advance, for your participation… 🙂

My Gallery Page is the easiest way to search through all of my patterns to find what you want. Each image on the Gallery Page takes you to links for patterns and tutorials.

Need help printing my patterns? This link offers a tutorial showing you how to download and print my FREE patterns using Google Docs. (For the older print-a-pattern tutorial, which uses Microsoft Word, click here.) To review my difficulty scale (demonstrating how hard or easy a pattern is by the number of flowers displayed), take a look back at this blog post.

Please note: you must enlarge my patterns to fit a full-sized piece of American computer paper (8.5 x 11 inches or 216 x 279 mm) without margins, before printing. These designs use a scant 1/4 inch seam (4 mm to be exact).

If you’re wondering why I make patterns and videos without charging a fee, please visit the “Chelly’s Books” page, and that should explain my general motivations. My patterns are now available through “Creative Commons Attribution.” This means that I created my patterns (and therefore I own rights to them), but I’m willing to share them with everyone who will tell people about my website.

Here are some helpful ways to tell the world about my patterns:

Are you new to sewing? I’ve got a playlist of tutorials for the beginning sewists on my YouTube channel. It includes video tutorials showing you how to do a basic straight stitch when sewing by hand, how to use the whipstitch to hem a garment, how to sew on snaps, and even how to design your own doll clothes patterns, for those who are new to design and alterations.

In case you haven’t heard, I have actually designed some commercial patterns for Lammily LLC. They have some new dolls in their line, including a new male doll, so you might want to visit the Lammily website to see what they’ve got going on.

If your question wasn’t answered here, feel free to submit a question. I’m always happy to help my followers find what they need, so they, too, can make amazing doll clothes and crafts!

  1. I sew for several different types of dolls, 18″ AG type (my Life from Walmart), Barbie, Ken & GI Joe type, & a Lammily doll, My Twinn, 16″ Gotz toddler doll, and 8″ Penny Brite. I would like to see fashions from the 20″s 30’s 40’s, & 50’s for all these types. I also knit

  2. I sew mostly for Ken size, but the more ‘buffy’ versions too (like Superman) and action figure bodies. I make dioramas and that from different time periods too. So something male and Victorian? Including dressing gowns and nightshirts.

    1. Great! I love designing historical costumes! Do you need some action figure/superhero costume patterns as well? Just curious. That might be fun to do.

      1. Hm…Doctor Strange? Quite a challenge to make his cloak :-)…and his tunic…and his vest (the one over the tunic)…and Karl Mordo’s outfit…and The Ancient one’s and Kaecilius (can you sense a pattern here?) ;-). I’m working on an outfit for marquis the Carabas from ‘Neverwhere’. You know: such an oldfashioned 1700 almost frock-coat. A bit pirate-y. I have so many ideas and so little time to make the things 🙂

      2. So many ideas and so little time: I hear that! I’m finishing up my Romeo and Juliet stop-motion video, but when that’s done, I want to do Treasure Island! We’ll see… I have lots of great ideas for costumes, but I’m also open to creative challenges like these. Thanks, Anne!

    1. I’m kind of excited that people are requesting clothes patterns for the big Barbie! I didn’t get one for Christmas, but if enough people vote for “My Size” Barbie (the really BIG one), maybe my family will give me one for my birthday in March. Then I’ll be off and running–designing patterns like crazy! Thanks for voting, Andrea!
