This costume includes a dress, drawstring purse, old-fashioned bloomers (pantaloons), a bonnet, and a riding cape. But the amazing part is that it fits so many different dolls! Just look at the image above! Here’s a list of dolls who can wear the patterns I’ve linked to below:

  1. Breyer dolls
  2. Ever After High dolls
  3. Monster High dolls
  4. What’s Her Face dolls
  5. Disney Princess 8″ dolls (does not include Moana)
  6. World of Love dolls
  7. Mego Wizard of Oz adult female dolls

Now for the patterns and tutorials… Note that I’ve listed which numbered doll (above) is able to fit the patterns listed below:

And there you have it, folks! It’s practically a one-size-fits-all doll costume for small dolls!

Before you go, remember that I’m hosting a contest for one person to win five of my daughter’s handmade Breyer Horse blankets. Visit this page to learn how you can win blankets for your model horses.

If you’re wondering why I make patterns and videos without charging a fee, please visit the “Chelly’s Books” page, and that should explain my general motivations. It’s always friendly and kind to show your appreciation for my free patterns and tutorials by liking them on Facebook, pinning them on Pinterest, and/or tweeting about them (yes, you have my permission). You’re also welcome to add any of my YouTube channel’s videos to your playlists. Please visit those links for easy access to my patterns, tutorials, and blog posts.

If you’re searching for a specific pattern, have a look at the Gallery Page. That’s the easiest way to search through all of my patterns to find what you want. Each image on the Gallery Page takes you to links for patterns and tutorials that are designed to help you make the outfit pictured there.

Most of my designs use a 1/4 inch seam (standard for fashion doll sewing projects), but for smaller doll clothes projects like this one, I recommend using a 1/8 inch seam, if you can pull that off. This ensemble isn’t for brand-new sewists (it can be tricky to make), so if you’re looking for easier projects, please read the information below…

I also have a series of tutorials for the beginning sewists on my YouTube channel. It includes video tutorials showing you how to do a basic straight stitch when sewing by hand, how to gather fabric, how to use the whipstitch to hem a garment, how to sew on snaps, and even how to design your own doll clothes patterns, just like I do!

Need help printing my patterns? This link will take you to a tutorial showing you how to download my free, printable patterns. It’s important to enlarge my patterns to fit a full-sized piece of American computer paper (8.5 x 11 inches or 216 x 279 mm) without margins, before printing.

In case you haven’t heard, I’ve designed commercial patterns for Lammily LLC. They have some new dolls in their line, including a new male doll, so you might want to visit the Lammily website to see what they’ve got going on.

    1. Oooh! I love that idea! Thank you, Alice!

As a matter of fact, I’ve been thinking about doing a series of doll clothes patterns that celebrate the Women’s Suffrage Movement, since the year 2020 marks the passage of the 19th Amendment to the US Constitution (giving women the right to vote in the United States). Your request is really inspiring me along these lines!

Do you want me to design your Gibson Girl dress for 8″ dolls? Barbie? American Girl? Let me know which doll you’re requesting a pattern for, okay?

      1. Lovely! She is 6″ tall, 1″ from nape of neck to waist, 3 1/2″ from waist to ankle, 1 1/2″ around thigh.
Thanks! I’ll check out your link there.

    1. Okay, I clicked on the link, and it says she’s 5.5 inches. The smaller Breyer Rider dolls are six inches tall. I am planning to make some outfits for the 6″ Breyer riders, but I am waiting to receive formal permission from the Breyer toy company first. So it could be a bit of a wait before I release official patterns for clothes that will fit that doll. Meanwhile, here’s what I do have for six inch dolls so far: https://chellywood.com/5-inch-6-inch-and-7-inch-doll-clothes-12-cm-to-18-cm-free-doll-clothes-patterns/
