This week I’m going to show you how to make two “dresses” for Momoko dolls. Momoko is a highly articulated, gorgeous doll, made my the Sekiguchi company of Japan. She’s not usually a “play with” doll, but more of a woman’s collectible doll, having a price tag of a hundred American dollars on up (that’s approximately 1100 yen or 89 euros).

If you’re thinking about buying a Momoko doll for your collection, I’d like to recommend searching eBay for them. The Sekiguchi website isn’t easy to navigate, and you’ll save quite a bit of money buying your doll used.

For this week’s lineup, I’ll start by posting the pattern for the undergarment. This will actually be a re-post. When I first designed the undergarment, I posted it as a fashion doll negligee. (It does fit Barbie as well as Momoko, although the skirt is a bit shorter on Barbie.) In my upcoming production of Romeo and Juliet, the lacy undergarment you see pictured below is what Juliet will wear in bed in the “It was the nightingale and not the lark” scene. So the label of “fashion doll negligee” fits, even though this is also the garment Juliet wears beneath her red gown.

So on Tuesday, I’ll re-post the negligee pattern; then on Wednesday, I’ll re-post the tutorial showing how to make it. On Thursday I’ll post the brand new pattern for the red Renaissance gown; on Friday, I’ll post the new tutorial showing how to make it.

This style of bonnet, which is designed a lot like a Pilgrim’s bonnet, was quite popular during the Renaissance. In my production of Romeo and Juliet, the red gown and bonnet will be worn by Juliet (played by Momoko) in the final scenes in Capulet’s tomb:
