This is a fairly new problem–tech addiction–but honestly, the idea of addiction isn’t new at all. There have been support groups for addicts for centuries. Before the birth of modern psychology, they called all support groups in the western world “church.” So if you can’t find any other source of help, you might consider that as a possible fallback.
But just in case church isn’t an option for you, remember that you have ALANON and its related twelve-step support programs. You might be familiar with “Alcoholics Anonymous” and ALANON, but did you know there’s also a support group called Online Gamers Anonymous? Video game addiction is becoming more and more of a problem, as people lose themselves in the digital world. I’ve offered some links here to help you understand online gaming addiction and to find websites where you can get help.
NetAddiction.com is a website that deals specifically with people who have internet addictions, people who can’t seem to step away from the computer. It may seem like an oxymoron to offer a website for people who are addicted to their computers, but when you live far away from a city center (like I do), sometimes an online source for support is all you can hope for.
I wish you luck. Addiction isn’t good, but rest assured, your reasoning is. Your mom may not be able to recognize that she needs help. It’s good that you do. I’m proud of you!

Yikes! Sometimes I can’t get off the computer. May need to check out net addiction!
